Goal: This grant will fund the development of a series of introductory WIC workshops for current and new faculty teaching on-line courses through Extended Campus. Workshop goals include:• To integrate WIC strategies into a variety of courses offered across the curriculum through OSU E-Campus
• To assist faculty in the design of WIC syllabi and writing assignments through the use of Blackboard
• To assist faculty in the use of Blackboard as a tool to facilitate WIC courses
• To orient current and new instructors to WIC expectations William Petty will work with the WIC Director in developing the workshops.
Loren Chavarria-Bechtel, ProposerDepartment of Foreign Languages and Literatures
Goal: This grant will fund the development of a new Spanish WIC course entitled “Mexican Culture and Society as Evidenced by Contemporary Mexican Film.” This course will also satisfy the cultural requirement for Spanish majors and minors, and will be open to Spanish Heritage Language Learners. This course is part of a series of new courses that will “put Oregon State University at the forefront nationally in the teaching of Spanish to heritage language learners."
Nabil Boudraa, ProposerDepartment of Nutrition and Food Management
Goal: This grant will fund the purchase of books and software on writing that will support the teaching of WIC courses in Francophone Studies.
Therese Waterhous, Proposer
Goal: This grant will fund the conversion of an existing course, NFM 420, “Medical Nutrition Therapy,” into a WIC class that focuses on clinical writing skills, as more than half of all NFM graduates seek employment in clinical settings.
