1. Fully identify the sources you use as evidence. Example: “Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, commissioned for the rededication of Coventry Cathedral in May 1962,...” Notice that identifying fully involves locating the source in space (Coventry) and time (May 1962). Proper identification provides answers to the questions “What?” “Where?” and “When?” Identification is not summary; you provide only enough information for your reader to understand what the source is, where it came from, and when it was written. You will demonstrate why the source and your use of it are significant through your analysis.
  2. You MUST cite your sources. For this class, you will use Chicago Style, which involves footnotes rather than parenthetical references or endnotes. Failure to cite your sources constitutes plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking credit for ideas that are not your own. Failure to cite your sources will earn you an automatic F.
