Rhetorical Knowledge

Students will demonstrate knowledge of:

  • ƒ The main features of writing in their field
  • ƒ The main uses of writing in their field
  • ƒ The expectations of readers in their field

Critical Thinking, Reading, and Writing

Students will demonstrate knowledge of:

  • ƒ The uses of writing as a critical-thinking tool in their field
  • ƒ The interactions among critical thinking, critical reading, and writing in their field

Processes

Students will demonstrate competence in/knowledge of writing processes by:

  • ƒ Building written documents in stages
  • ƒ Reviewing work-in-progress in collaborative peer groups for purposes other than editing
  • ƒ Editing and polishing in the later parts of the writing process
  • ƒ Applying technologies commonly used to research and communicate within their field

Knowledge of Conventions

Students will demonstrate the knowledge and use of:

  • ƒ The conventions of usage, specialized vocabulary, format, and documentation in their field
  • ƒ Strategies through which they can achieve better control of field-specific conventions of Standard Written English
